Sculpture Extravaganza (Ages 6 – 12)

Mondays, January 9 – March 6 (no class 1/16 or 2/20)
7 weeks
3:30pm – 5:00pm

Instructor: Lindsay Fogg-Willits

Children in this class will turn their ideas into 3- dimensional pieces of art! We will work with clay, wood, cardboard, paper mache, wire and more to create a variety of small and large sculptures. This is a great class for children who have big imaginations and a love for building! Come ready to get your hands messy! Smocks are provided.

Drawing and Painting (Ages 6 – 12)

Tuesdays, January 10 – March 7 (no class 2/21)
8 weeks

This class will help students develop their painting and drawing skills through weekly technique demonstrations, material experimentation and projects which focus on a variety of subject matter. We will explore ways that value, line, color, perspective and design principles can enhance a work of art. This will be a fun and relaxed introduction for students who feel less confident in their abilities as well as an opportunity for students with more experience to develop their skills.

Art Exploration (Ages 5 – 11)

Wednesdays, January 11 – March 8 (no class 2/22)

This class is perfect for children who want to try a little bit of everything! Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of materials and techniques. Throughout the session we will experiment with painting, printmaking, drawing, fiber arts, sculpture, collage, and more! At the end of each class there will be “choice time”: an opportunity for students to explore materials and subject matter of their choice.

Comics! (Ages 8 – 12)

Sundays, January 15 – March 12 (no class 2/26)

Instructor: Jace (“Rascal”) Smith

This eight-session course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of comic art, and will provide kids the opportunity to learn the technical and creative skills needed to produce a comic. Students will learn and develop drawing techniques, character development, and storytelling strategies, play comic art games and much more. Students who have taken the course previously will continue to work towards developing a character and comic entirely of their own design, learning further tricks of the trade.

Jace Smith is an Amherst based art educator, illustrator, and published comic book artist. An alumna of both the School Of Visual Arts in New York City, and of the Massachusetts College Of Art And Design in Boston, Jace has shown work throughout the New England and New York area, and has done work for a wide variety of clients in different markets.

A Morning of Art! A workshop for children (ages 4-8) and their grown-ups!

Saturday, January 28
9-10:30am
$12 for each art-making participant (parents need only pay if they plan on making projects themselves — there is no fee for coming to help your child).
**all children must be accompanied by a participating grown-up

Join us a for a fun morning of collaborative art-making! The project stations of the day will be: Water bottle penguins; 3D caves with clay creatures; Winter Cardinal collage. Stay for part of the time and do one project or join us for the full 1.5 hours and make all three! Pre-registration is required.

February Vacation Camp!!

Art Exploration Vacation Fun
February Vacation Week (2/20 -2/24)
Ages 6-12

This is a chance for kids to escape the cold and spend a relaxing and fun morning in the studio making art! Projects throughout the week will focus on drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, fiber art, printmaking and more and will be inspired by a variety of themes and artists.  Our mornings will be a relaxed mix of art-making, snack-eating and game-playing! Bring a snack and water bottle.

Color Theory for Painters (Ages 15+)

Saturday, March 4th 
9-11:30am
$50 (includes materials)

This workshop is designed for those people who want to improve their understanding of color theory so as to better mix colors, create dynamic compositions and convey mood in their work. We will spend the 2.5 hours creating our own color wheels, value swatches and other mixing tests as well as exploring the impact of colors when they are placed together through a variety of painting exercises. This class will be a fun and useful introduction (or review) to color principles for the novice and experienced artist!

Lindsay is also teaching the following adult classes at Hill Institute in Florence starting the week of January 30. To register, you must attend Hill Institute’s in-person registration on Saturday, January 14, from 10-11:30am (all classes are $70):

  • Landscape Painting, Mondays 12-2pm (10 weeks)
  • Exploring Drawing, Tuesdays 12-2pm (10 weeks)
  • Painting (all mediums), Wednesday 7:15-9:15pm (10 weeks)
  • Landscape Painting, Thursdays 9-12noon (7 weeks)
